PSA: Why Should You Check Your Website on Google?

When was the last time you searched for your company website on Google? If you haven’t done this lately, here are a few reasons why you should:

  • To get a birds-eye view of your search results. Getting a birds-eye view of your search results allows you to check headings and description text to see any glaring issues or errors. If there are errors in your search results, this is where you will be able to see them.
  • To see who your competition is. Google a keyword that you think you should show up for or want to show up for to see if you show up and who else is there with you. Knowing your local competition and how they are marketing to potential customers can help you better advertise your business.
  • To see if your site has been marked as hacked. If you are typing your URL into your web browser instead of Google, you may miss that your site has been marked as hacked. When you search for your site in Google, it will show you if something is wrong on Google’s side. See an example here:
  • To see if your site has been compromised. Clicking on your search results can also help you see if your site has been compromised by a redirect via search results hack. Some hacked results only show if you visit from certain search engines. If your site is redirecting to malicious sites, your website is most likely hacked. If customers cannot safely get to your site from Google, you are missing out on potential business.
